Li Huanchen 李换臣 of Nanjing in Jiangsu Province painted this kite on silk in the 1980s. It measures 110 by 36 centimeters. In ancient times people were buried with a cicada carved in jade to bring them immortality and happiness in the afterlife. Since the cicada lives so long it is a common symbol of longevity.
