Marco Polo Bridge memorial of Qing Emperor Kangxi

Lugou Qiao - Marco Polo Bridge
卢沟桥的历史
The Qing Dynasty
清朝

Detail of the top of the memorial of Qing Emperor Kangxi 康熙 (Kāngxī) shows coiling snakes surrounded by a modified cloud motif. The design of the monument is traditional and can be seen at many sites around Beijing. You will notice similar monuments in the Baiyun Guan, White Cloud Temple and at the Fahai Temple. I mention those because they are included in the Historic Beijing index. (Click the up arrow at the top of this page to go to the index.)
