The shaded passageways offer relief from the heat of the day. It was in the mid-nineties in the shade, so any slight breeze was welcome. On the day I visited, there were about twenty room air-conditioners lined up near the entrance waiting for installation. Beijing has gotten hotter with the increased number of buildings, paved roads, and cars.
