Dongbianmen
东便门

The flag post stone, 旗杆石, is what remains of the original. A whole log was used, much like the mast of a ship. During the Qing Dyansty the military was divided into banners. Eight Banners defended the city of Beijing. The area from Dongbianmen to Chongwenmen was the responsibility of the Blue Banner. Their flag would have flown at this site. Below, two pictures show the Duty Room and the restored section of the city wall. You can see the beginning of the Beijing Rail Station train yard in the middle picture.
