The center of this hutong had already been reduced to rubble. The building bordering the outer wall had not yet been touched. Notice the roof. When the plants begin to grow in tile cracks; the roof leaks. When you don't own the building and the landlord isn't going to fix the roof, some tar paper and a few bricks to hold it down is all the repair that is necessary to keep the rain out. |
