Destruction of Qianmen Hutong
前门胡同的扯破

On our side of Qianmen Dong Lu, a dragon tail modesty wall had been built to hide the destruction of the hutongs. Often these walls will be removed once construction has finished. This one looks like it may be planned as a permanent fixture. It is called a dragon tail because it was originally designed to lead off a gate with dragon heads facing one another. The entire wall would comprise the dragon. Below is an example from the Yu Garden in Shanghai.
