Qianmen Dashila 大栅栏

Qianmen Dashila 大栅栏

The gate pictured above and at the bottom of the page marks the beginning of the Dashila/Dazhalan 大栅栏 (Dàzhàlán) shopping street. It intersects with Qianmen Dajie and runs east-west. Most of the shops that appear on these pages are located on Dashila.

The gentleman near the bikes in the light shirt is reaching for money to pay for parking his bike. The gentleman to the right in the dark coat is the attendant. You pay for parking when you leave. The attendant guards the bikes, and sometimes gives you a hand to extract your bike from the rank. In most places it costs about a nickle to park your bike.

Below, the old picture is not of the Dashila gate, but it gives an idea of a similar area.
