Zhengyangmen 正阳门 (Zhèngyángmén) is the south gate of the Inner City. There was another wall and set of gates surrounding the city proper, or the Outer City. Those were totally destroyed to make way for modern highways in the 1950s by the People's Republic of China. At the same time, most of the Inner City walls and other gates were dismantled for the same reason. |
