Banpo Neolithic Culture
半坡文化

The adults at Banpo were buried outside the compound without a casket or enclosure. So far, 174 tombs have been excavated. Burial objects such as covered pots with millet, a grain, were found in 71 of the grave sites.

While most tombs contained one individual, Tomb 38 shown above and at the bottom of the page, contained the remains of four females. Men and women were not buried together as a rule. In the image at the bottom of the page, the contents of the burial urns have been removed by the museum for analysis. The top image is a picture of a photograph taken when the remains were first discovered. Below, two males were buried together in Tomb 39. Both tombs contain covered pots full of offerings or supplies for the next life.
