| When the Temple of Great Kindness and Grace, Da Ci'en Temple 大慈恩寺 (Dà Cí 'ēn sì) was built in 589 during the Sui Dynasty, it was fairly small. When Crown Prince Li Zhi rennovated it, he enlarged it to 13 complete yards with 1,879 rooms. Temples included farms, vegetable gardens, as well as scenic gardens. Today the Temple of Great Kindness and Grace is much smaller. It no longer has its own farm within the temple but maintains gardens for relaxation and contemplation. |
