Ecliptic Armilla - 1673 - 黄道经纬仪

This is one of the instruments designed by Ferdinand Verbiest. The ecliptic armilla measures the ecliptic longitude difference and latitudes of celestial bodies.

The ecliptic armilla was the traditional European device while the Chinese developed the equatorial armilla and used it as the basis for celestial spheres and armillary clocks. The equatorial armilla built by Vebiest can be seen on the next page.
