| The population of Shanghai is one of the fastest growing in China. From 1990 to 2000 it grew 23% to 16.738 million permanent residents and another 3 to 4 million unregistered migrants compared to an 11% growth rate for the rest of China. By 2004 it was estimated that there were 17.78 million permanent residents.
The Shanghai Shimao International Plaza stands 1,093.5 feet (333.3m) if measured by the spire, and 808.7 feet (246.5m) at the roof line. Designed by Ingenhoven Overdiek und Partner, it has 60 floors of office space and a hotel. It took four years to build it. It was started in 2001 and finished shortly after this picture was taken in 2005.
