Jiangnan 江南 - West of Shanghai

A traditional canal boat is docked near fish pens in this rural village. The buildings are a mix of new and old. The area is extremely productive and the farmers are benefiting from modern agricultural methods and diversification. At the same time the income of the average rural agricultural worker is lagging far behind their industrial worker counterpart. As economic growth hits rural areas, distribution of wealth too often is controlled by the few in power or by outside developers.
