Yu Yuan 豫园
Lantern

Today, lanterns are electrified but in the Ming Dynasty there were a constant source of worry due to the frequency of fires. Supplies of sand were kept handy near all buildings and when the lanterns were lit, attendants were on constant watch. This lantern is painted with Beauties, a common subject in Chinese painting.
