Tomb sweeping. Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery

Babaoshan 八宝山

As part of Qingming, the graves are tended. the stones are washed, and flowers are arranged. Qingming is often expressed in English as "tomb sweeping" or "tomb washing" season. The labor is seen as a service to the departed, a way of showing remembrance and respect. In the countryside, fences are mended, grass is trimmmed, and new flowers are planted. Wine, fruit, and flowers may be left. Incense is burnt, as are red paper symbols and money.
