Forbidden City
故宫博物院

Just a step away from the Palace of Heavenly Purity there are small museums on both the west and east sides. This round lantern is made of strips of rhinoceros horn. It measures 25 cm (9.8 inches) tall. Such lanterns would be carried on a pole so they could be held forward and aloft. They might also be suspended from the poles on sedan chairs and carriages. This one dates to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912).
