Wang Chong was a native of Suzhou in Jiangsu province so grew up in a culture where fine paintings and
calligraphy were readily available for study. He is twenty years younger than Wen Zhengming, one of
the founders of the Wumen School in Suzhou. He is also known by his designated name Luji
履吉 and
his literary name Yayi Shanren
雅宜山人. He is considered one of the four masters of calligraphy of
Suzhou along with Chen Chun (1484-1544), Zhu Yuming (1460-1526), and Wen Zhengming (1470-1559).
