Pottery Figure of a Wrestler

These pottery figures (see previous page) were made during the Jin Dynasty (1115 - 1234), They were used as burial objects and were excavated in Weinan.

The Jin rulers encouraged and required the practice of the military skills and arts that allowed them to establish their expanded dynasty. Wrestling, sports, games, yearly jousts and meets were used to create the competition that would keep skills sharp.
