Jiangnan 江南 - West of Shanghai, toward Suzhou

It is fairly early in the morning, but it is still hard to tell whether this man is returning from the market where he sold his produce or walking to the market to buy necessities. Although the road is hot, it is easier than walking on dirt paths.

The ropes on the trees serve to strengthen the young trees and as a deterrent to insects. They will gradually rot away as the tree grows, but take a look at the number of trees and how many times those ropes were wound about the trunk.
