On the lower left the old man is the God of Longevity, a traditional Chinese god. Above, in the clouds, is the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin. On either side of her are two of the four Guardian Kings of Buddhism. The combination of tradition gods, Buddhist, Confucian, and Daoist symbols is common in Chinese art. |
