9.
The 了 (le) particle is used in many different ways. In this
 10. article, we will explore how to use the double 了 (le) to express
 11. the duration of an activity that is ongoing.

 16. past is one thing, but what if the action is still ongoing?

 17.
A clarifying example (in English) is appropriate:

 18.

 19.
I lived in Shanghai for 5 years. (concluded, not ongoing)

 20.
I have lived in Shanghai for 5 years. (mostly likely
 21. ongoing)

 22.
I have been living in Shanghai for 5 years. (definitely
 23. ongoing)

 24.

 25.
This article is about expressing the third situation above, the
 26. one which is definitely ongoing.
