  4. course, according to his level of maturity and achievement will:</p><div class="variablelist" epub:type="list"><dl class="variablelist"><dt><span class="term">L-1</span></dt><dd><p>discriminate between stressed and unstressed vowels by
  5. indicating whether the first vowel of an orally presented
  6. word is stressed or unstressed</p></dd><dt><span class="term">L-2</span></dt><dd><p>distinguish between orally presented questions and
  7. statements, based upon inflection at the end of a sentence,
  8. by marking the proper column on an answer sheet with 80%
  9. accuracy.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">L-3</span></dt><dd><p>determine gender and number of person or persons addressed
  10. in an orally presented dialog, and indicate the appropriate
  11. gender.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">L-4</span></dt><dd><p>demonstrate comprehension of spoken Russian by indicating
  12. which of two orally presented answers to each orally
  13. presented question is correct.</p></dd></dl></div></li><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p><span class="bold"><strong>Speaking</strong></span> According to his levels of
  14. maturity and achievement and in a manner acceptable to the teacher, the
  15. student will:</p><div class="variablelist" epub:type="list"><dl class="variablelist"><dt><span class="term">S-1</span></dt><dd><p>pronounce Russian words sampling stressed and unstressed
  16. vowels after hearing the model. Hearing any average length
  17. sentence on content taught, the learner will imitate with
  18. 90% accuracy in the time allotted.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">S-2</span></dt><dd><p>speak with acceptable Russian pronunciation, intonation,
  19. juncture and stress in a free response situation using
  20. previously learned Russian content or recombinations
  21. thereof.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">S-3</span></dt><dd><p>perform necessary changes in form and order as regards the
  22. following oral drills ( person-number, substitution,
  23. replacement etc. ):</p><div class="itemizedlist" epub:type="list"><ul style="list-style-type: disc; " class="itemizedlist"><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p>-a, person-number agreement of first and

  29. studied. Hearing five questions, the learn will answer
  30. orally three.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">S-5</span></dt><dd><p>ask questions about his usual activities or material
  31. studied. Hearing five statements, the learner will ask an
  32. appropriate question to produce at least three of the

  35. sampling stressed and unstressed vowels with special
  36. attention given to correct pronunciation of the vowels.
  37. Accuracy level - 80%.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">R-2</span></dt><dd><p>read (orally) familiar material in sentence form with
  38. pronunciation, meaningful intonation, stress and juncture
  39. judged to be acceptable to a native speaker in 80% of
  40. sentences attempted.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">R-3a</span></dt><dd><p>demonstrate direct reading comprehension in Russian of
  41. material already mastered audio-lingually by selecting the
  42. correct printed answers to printed questions on a short
  43. printed selection.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">R-3b</span></dt><dd><p>prove his skill of reading especially written materials
  44. that introduce new vocabulary and grammar progressively.
  45. Given a paragraph of such content, the student will answer
  46. in either language seven of ten comprehension
  47. questions.</p></dd></dl></div></li><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p><span class="bold"><strong>Writing</strong></span> According to his level of
  48. maturity and achievement, the student will:</p><div class="variablelist" epub:type="list"><dl class="variablelist"><dt><span class="term">W-1</span></dt><dd><p>copy correctly in Cyrillic script from Cyrillic print any
  49. previously audio-lingually mastered material.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">W-2</span></dt><dd><p> write in Cyrillic script from dictation of familiar
  50. idiomatic expressions and "dialogs" mastered
  51. audio­lingually.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">W-3</span></dt><dd><p>
  52. </p><div class="itemizedlist" epub:type="list"><ul style="list-style-type: disc; " class="itemizedlist"><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p>-a write exercises requiring minimal
  53. structural changes. Given any ten sentences with
  54. one change only in each, the learner will write
  55. seven correctly.</p></li><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p>-b rewrite printed sentences in Cyrillic
  56. script changing the subject from singular to
  57. plural, and making all additional necessary
  58. changes.</p></li><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p>-c write short complete sentences in answer to
  59. printed or oral questions.</p></li></ul></div><p>

  63. student will indicate if the statement applies to
  64. Russia, the USA, or both by marking R,U, or В
  65. beside each statement.</p></li><li class="listitem" epub:type="list-item"><p>b- Given "Air Travel," "Space Exploration,"
  66. and "The Soviet School Day," as topics for a
  67. report, the student will choose one and make a ten

  69. of studying the target language.</p></dd><dt><span class="term">C-3</span></dt><dd><p>sing-along with folk music records and make observations
