Dig deep the tunnels, keep vast the stores of grain, and never seek hegemony.

Beijing Underground City 北京地下城

The frescos on the wall are the most interesting aspect of the Underground City. This is the slogan that served as the rally cry for the tunnel projects across China. It was written by Mao Zedong in his own calligraphy and portrayed in a fresco by an unknown artist. His signature is at the bottom, right.

深挖洞,广积粮,不称霸

Dig deep the tunnels, keep vast the stores of grain, and never seek hegemony.
