| The white tiger is important in Chinese folklore, and plays a starring role in astronomy and astrology. The constellations, or Xiù (宿), are grouped by the four directions: East, West, South and North. The White Tiger is the primary constellation of the western sky (see below). The other major constellations are: east = dragon; south = vermillion bird; and north = tortoise. Each of the major constellations contain minor constellations. The major constellations are used as pointers to locate specific areas in the night sky, just as we use the Big Dipper. |
