| Shepherd's Field Children's Village receives the standard support from the government and conforms to all laws and regulations for orphanages in China. They serve a unique role which supports other orphanages, filling in where limited resources would make it impossible for proper development of the children.
Government support for each orphan is less than $100 dollars a month. In some areas of China it is much less than that. Orphanages must rely on contributions from local communities to make ends meet. Even paying school fees, buying books, and providing school uniforms is a burden. Providing specialized medical and educational support is beyond their capability. As China becomes wealthier, it becomes easier for orphanages to find private donations, but those are only enough to ensure an education and healthy diet. Although conditions are improving all the time, the need for organizations such as the Shepherd's Field Children's Village will continue for some time. |
