People's Park, 人民公园

People's Park, 人民公园 Renmin Gongyuan, provides ample shade, but not much space for traditional morning exercises. The herringbone pavement allows people to walk among the trees without raising dust or killing grass. This is a very formal park. Even when landscaped for exploration the feeling is that you shouldn't stay too long.

In other sections of the park there are large open paved sections that see more activity and even a children's playground (admission charged). The park does provide a wonderful backdrop for the Shanghai Museum, the Shanghai Art Museum and various government buildings located around the People's Square.
