| A small roof tops each vase shaped doorway in the corridor. The roof prevents rain from washing down the whitewash and gives enough cover to allow the viewer to stand in the rain to watch the water course over the rocks. Above the roof tiles, the central circular pattern reminds one of cash, a round coin with square holes used in China into the 1930's.
The pattern is made with lengths of roof tiles arranged in alternate rows and embedded within one another. The same pattern is often found in walkways. Slices of roof tile, 2 inches long, are placed in patterns and filled with small white stones.
