Wang Duo
王铎 (1592-1652)
Wang Duo was born in Mengjing, Henan Province. His designated name was Juesi
觉斯.
He was transitional between the Ming and Qing Dynasty, working under both administrations. He spent
a good part of his professional career copying the works of Wang Xizhi
王羲之(330-361 AD), a
calligrapher of the Eastern Jin. His influence on calligraphy continues to this day. Wang Duo was also a
poet in his own right as well as a painter. This scroll was completed in 1622 when he was 31.
