White Jade Buddha
汉白玉佛像

This statue of Buddha dates to the Song Dynasty (960 - 1127 AD). It is carved of the finest white jade. White jade and the image of Buddha make a happy blending. Some of the best jade carving can be found in images of Buddha. The white jade Buddhas at the Jade Temple in Shanghai are the most famous, but others are found in China and Thailand. The transluscent jade adds a mystical quality to the Buddha, but the devotion of the finest carvers also brings out the best in their art.
