Then, off in the distance, across a flat plane, you see the city walls of Beijing. They were imposing and intimidating, as they were meant to be, but they also signaled the end of the journey, a good cup of tea or wine, and the hope of a profitable trip. We seldom have the opportunity for the pure physical satisfaction of fulfillment after months of effort today. But perhaps their joy was tempered by the thought of the return trip.</font></td>
