At least today it is.  During the </font><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mesozoic era</font><font size="-1" color="white" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"> marsupials probably evolved in China. Their fossils are found in some of the oldest dinosaur digs. During the Mesozoic era, the continents were all different. The marsupials were able to spread via North and South America to Antarctica and from there to Australia. Those were the early ancestors of the modern marsupials, which include the kangaroo, opossum, the koalas, some moles, the bandicoots, and the bilbies. There are hundreds of species of marsupials, many of them extinct.</font></td>
