							<td><font size="-1" color="white" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The southern chamber of Pit 3 is shown above. In this picture you can see the tiles that paved the pits and the walls are in pristine condition. Notice the striations in the wall on the right, showing the layers of rammed earth. The wooden staffs that would have held the bronze weapons rotted away long ago. The bronze weapons and bronze and gold fittings for chariots and horses have been removed to be displayed or stored under environmentally stable conditions. </font>
								<p><font size="-1" color="white" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Below, there are two pictures taken at the Potala Palace of people repairing the roof of a building with pounded earth. The workers walk back and forth singing and pounding to the beat. After a few turns they stop and rest and then begin again. Water and clay are added in small amounts. As the water dries out under the pounding, a new chemical bond is created that makes a long-lasting and waterproof roof.</font></p>
