  34. <td><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">When you cross the Huangpu to Pudong, it is to go to a rather strange place. Everything is new, as if, well, it's more startling than you might think. This has all been built since the early 1990s. The Oriental Pearl Tower seems historical in this context. If you continue east, you eventually get to farm land and then to the East China Sea. The Sea is only 15 miles from the Jin Mao Tower.</FONT>
  35. <p><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">People did live here before development, but in this area there is little evidence of it. In fact, the December 29, 2006 Shanghai Daily carried two items that tickled me. The first is that an &quot;ancient water town&quot; near the Formula One Race Track will be rennovated for tourism and the second was that in New Pudong they were going to do the same to an 800 year old village in time for all the tourists of 2010. Well, anything that will help preserve the history of China is worthwhile. </font></p>
