- <td><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">You can see some of the colors of the carpet hanging on the surface. One of the characteristics of silk is how well it takes dyes. When silks were first imported to Europe, the brightness and clarity of color was an important aspect in their popularity. Silk carpets don't wear as well as wool, but the color choices are much brighter and feel of a silk carpet is exceptional. </FONT>
- <p><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">In order to make dyes brighter, cheaper, and more resistant to fading, chemical dyes have been developed. In a more recent trend, some manufactures have begun to use all natural dyes and fibers. In this area, Iranian carpets maintain their edge, but the budding Nepalese industry has found a market niche with natural products. </font></p>
- <p><font size="-1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">The traditional Persian carpet has a long tradition of style, meaning, and symbol. Each locality produced their own designs. This tradition spread throughout the region. Today, however, those designs are produced anywhere, often combining patterns from a number of different regions and cultures. For the connoisseur that is terrible, for the producer it is a matter of making what sells. The carpet above is a Chinese flower design. </font></p>
