  48. Marilyn Shea written by Chinese version of Snow White with Attitude for English speakers.  Learn Chinese while you read.  Click on a sentencc to listen while you read.  Vocabulary in both English and Chinese is available for this audio book by clicking on the small computer on the right side.  The apples will take you to sections of the story and the arrows in the middle let you turn the pages one at a time.  Snow White with Attitude is a variation on the traditional story handed down from the middle-ages.  Both the story and the vocabulary have been updated.   64. <font size="+1" face="Verdana,Arial,Helvetica"><a class="white">Snow White with Attitude is based on the traditional story from the Middle-Ages, but it has been brought up to date - sort of.  The vocabulary of this version builds upon the vocabulary from the other. more traditional, version found on Ting - Chinese English Study Center Games and Stories page.  Translation is not word for word, but what would be said in each language by context.  Even the title is slightly different.  新转 (xīn​zhuǎn​) means new version or new twist.  转 (zhuǎn​) means to revolve, to turn, to circle about, to shift.  It is used in combination to create words having to do with reform, reincarnation, reactivation, and other similar concepts.  白雪公主新转 conveys the same idea as does Snow White with Attitude - this is not the traditional approach to the story.

The version on this page will allow you to listen continuously, without the aid of the print form.To get around, use the apples to get to sections, the center contols to pause and play at any point, and the home and dictionary buttons on the right to go elsewhere.  To listen to the story, just click on the flashing arrow on the center bar.    Listening with the words in front of you is the first step, but then you want to free yourself from the written word.    When children listen to a story, they do so repeatedly.  That's how they get so good at language.  The ideal is to get the point where you stop translating and understand the words directly.

  70. At another level, listen to the 'song' of the story.  What words are slurred, what words are drawn out, and what words are said loudly.  Notice the similarities and diffeences among the different readers.
