- B: Chángchéng jīngguòle hǎojǐge shěng, yígòng yǒu yíwàn èrqiān lǐ cháng. The Great Wall goes through many provinces and is altogether twelve thousand li long.
- 2. A: Tīngshuō. Wànlǐ Chángchéng xiūguo hǎojǐcì le. I’ve heard that the Great Wall has been repaired a great many times.
- B: Shì, cóng Qíncháo dào xiànzài yìzhí zài xiū. Yes, from the Qin Dynasty up until now, there have been repairs all along.
- 3. A: Bādálǐngshangde Chángchéng hǎoxiàng bú shi Qíncháo jiànzhùde. It seems to me that the Great Wall at Bādállng wasn't built during the Qin Dynasty.
- B: Ng, nǐ shuōde duì, shi Mingcháo chóngxīn jiànzhùde. Mm, you're right. It was rebuilt .from scratch during the Ming Dynasty.
- 4. A: Zài lìshǐshang yǒu zhème duō cì yòng Běijīng zuò shǒudū. Throughout history Běijīng has been used as a capital so many times.
- B: Nà shi yīnwei dìxíng hǎo. That's because the terrain is good.

- 9. A: Wǒ hěn xīnshǎng nǐmen jiěfàng yǐhòu gàide Shí Dà Jiànzhù. I really admire the Ten Great Structures you've built since liberation.
- B: Nín tài kèqi le. You're too polite.¹
- 10. A: Wǒmen yǐjīng juédìng chīle fàn yǐhòu qù mǎi dōngxi. We've already decided that after we eat we're going shopping.
- B: Hǎo. Cóng zhèr chuānguò guǎngchǎng jiù yǒu shāngdiàn le. Okay, from here cross through the square and there are some stores.

- B: Yìtiǎn nǎr kàndewán! How could you see it all in one day?
