Exercise generator

You'll find here some programs to generate h5P, Hotpotatoes and moodle exercises from a .CSV file with vocabulary / sentences.

You need the python3 interpreter with some libraries. It's free software, one of the most popular programming language, so available for any plateform.

How to run the program

Download the archive from the git server (only available for Felix, Kyle and me). Decompress it, and go into the folder just created.

just type in a console:

python3 H5P.py

or just

python H5P.py

You'll encounter errors because you don't have the libraries needed.

Every system has his own method to install the libraries. One way is to use “pip” (or pip3 ... same pip, but specific to python3 if there are multiiple python installed (version 2 and 3 together)):

pip install the-name-of-the-library

Here is the list of libraries needed to run the program :

Where are the exercises?

All the exercises will be generated in a minute (depending on the power of your computer).

They are all located in the Exercises folder :

I created 2 versions of the repository of the exercises:

• in the first the exercises are classed by type of exercise, and by Level, Chapter, Lesson. The names of the folders follow the type of exercise. So REWP means “Read English / Write Pinyin”.

• in the second, the folder is named "Lessons", and all the exercises (all kind) are stored under a lesson folder. In the Lessons folder, you'll find this :

Now, you can see the “D” Lesson of “Level 6” “Chapter 5” content. All the different exercises for this peticuliar lesson are here.

So 2 ways of organisation, every one suited for some flow of work.

How to use these exercises

One by one

You can use the exercises one by one, upload it on moodle (I'll check if it's possible to do a batch upload of all the exercises) and make your own composition of exercises.

Combined in Lumi

You can also use Lumi to combine some of the exercises into one "exercises page". You just chose the exercises you want and load them on Lumi. Then you can copy/past the exercises in a column kind.

Be aware that some exercises are already colums and you cannot integrate a column ito a column.

You'll have to select the parts of the column you want to integrated in the column-exercise-page.

Dialogues exercises

I wrote a programme named dia.py to generate 4 kinds of dialogues exercises.

To run it, just type :

python3 dia.py

The program uses the file provided by Felix. You'll have to export it in .CSV format, tab separated fields.

(I use only tab separated values CSV files)

Pay attention to this : sometimes, Felix forget to modify the fields names :

• Blank_text
• English_blank_sentence

These names must be written like above, and not with "-" characters.
